Walt Disney Movies Animated Films! Your Thanksgiving free movie list is merely two movies long, but what movies! Unlike Halloween (that I offered that you simply list of 100 free scary movies here), Thanksgiving requires a different twist. Neither could well be specific to Thanksgiving, nonetheless they relate to some themes from the holiday. Frankly, I can enjoy these free movies for Thanksgiving or for any day in the year.

Big oil company propaganda having a heart! Just the free movie we want for Thanksgiving! This 78-minute semi-documentary from 1948 is one with the most lyrical American films ever produced. In 1994, The Louisiana Story was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry through the Library of Congress being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." It is the story of a Cajun boy and the family, living on the bayous in ways of life that we can barely imagine.
The boy's family rents land on the oil company, which comes in, drills, leaving everything the same as it was, clean and unspoiled except that the family carries a little more money. (Yes, it was funded from the Standard Oil Company.)
The boy spends most of his time on his narrow boat (pirogue), floating down the bayous, prime snake and alligator habitat, along with his pet raccoon. He never wears a life preserver or shoes... doesn't actually have a cell phone to get in touch with case he gets in danger. There is not much story, merely a celebration (in these stunning grayscale photography that you can well wonder what are the big deal is approximately color) of a way of life that is certainly no longer with us.
All of the actors were amateurs, as well as for most, this is their only film. As of April 2007, J.C. Boudreaux, who played the boy, was moving into a FEMA trailer with his wife of fifty-five years, after Hurricane Rita destroyed their home. (source). A black and white silent film that ends having a woman being burned alive? Oh, yes, exactly what every family needs at Thanksgiving. But, I have three good reasons for including The Passion of Joan of Arc in this pair of free movies for Thanksgiving.
First, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was ever produced. Second, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was preserved. The director Carl Theodor Dreyer (more) died convinced that the last copy ended up destroyed. In a little weirdness that sounds more like a movie than the truth, a virtually complete print was discovered in 1981 in the janitor's closet of the Norwegian mental institution.
Finally, I am grateful we can watch this magnificent film, on many lists with the greatest films in recent history, at no cost online at Gloria.tv, a Roman Catholic video site.
Maria Falconetti (more), who plays Joan, suffered an emotional breakdown through the making with this film, and she never made another film. Pauline Kael (more), a notoriously demanding film critic, declared Falconetti's performance "may function as finest performance ever concerning film."
